RARC Types of Memberships

RARC membership does not require the person to have an amateur radio license.

The membership is for a year and run from January 1 to December 31. From July thru October the rate is reduced by half. A person joining in November or December is given these months free as part of the next year’s membership at the full price of a membership.

Individual – $22.00 One person. A person who is 18 or younger is not charged for their membership. A person who is 80 or older is not charged for their membership.

Family – $33.00 Two or more people, must be living at the same address, generally having the same last name, but not necessarily. One person would complete the Family membership form for all members of the family. To be cost effective at least two new members should be 19 – 79 years old.

One thing to remember about a family membership, it is $33.00 and that covers all members at an address, but it may cost you more than having an Individual membership, especially if one or more people are receiving a free membership.

Joining a Family

If only one person at an address is a member, there currently is not a family that a new member can join. They would join as an individual and that would then create a family.

Joining a family presents a problem. At the time the membership form is being filled out, we don’t know if a family exist, or if to save money if you should join as a family or an individual. So, we have added a flag, potential join family. If you select yes, your form is put into a pending status when you submit it. We will review it and email you about how we will proceed.

Renewals.

The Renewal process for the next year start on December 1 and run thru March 1. All members must complete a renewal form, even if their membership is free. Members who do not renew are removed from the active roster on March 2.

At renewal time we count December as part of the next year. So, a person born in 2007 does their renewal in December 2025, is considered to be 19, since the renewal is for 2026. The reverse is true. If you were born in 1946, and renew in December 2025, you are considered to be 80 and gets a free renewal.
RARC now has two types of memberships.

If a renewal is marked as for the family, then all members at that address are renewed by the one renewal form. As this type of membership is new, two or more current members, at the same address are considered to be a family and should renew as a family even though they did not join as a family, if there are two members that are 19 – 79 years old, otherwise it may not be cost effective and they would renew as individual’s and save money.
